EU initiative on global warming

Strasbourg - The European Commission yesterday adopted a major package of measures to combat global warming. This included a proposal to ratify the Kyoto protocol and a draft directive on greenhouse gas emissions within the EU. In so doing, the Commission reaffirmed the EU's commitment "to bring the Kyoto protocol into force before the world summit on sustainable development" in Johannesburg next September.
