The ESB is to invest over €190 million in Limerick as part of a plan to update its network in the county.

New substations have been earmarked for the Castleroy and Dockroad areas of Limerick and over 3,000 kilometres of overhead line will be put in place as part of the plan.

The head of SB network services, Mr Jerry O'Sullivan, said the investment would benefit all ESB customers in Limerick.

"The improved quality of supply and increased reliability will mean all our customers in Limerick will enjoy a better electrical infrastructure," he said.

He also said the upgrade would improve access for potential industrial and commercial investments regardless of where companies locate.

The renewal programme is expected to be completed by 2005. The ESB are erecting around 500 poles daily as part of a €3.5 billion nationwide network upgrade.
