Two ambassadors presented their credentials to the President, Mrs McAleese, at Aras an Uachtarain yesterday

Two ambassadors presented their credentials to the President, Mrs McAleese, at Aras an Uachtarain yesterday. They are the Ambassador of South Africa, Ms Mel anie Verwoerd, and the Ambassador of Chile, Mr Cristian Barros Melet.

Ms Verwoerd, who seven years ago at 27 and a member of the ANC, was the youngest female South African MP to enter parliament, was accompanied by her husband and the embassy's first secretary. With the Chilean Ambassador was his wife and the first secretary. Others attending included the Minister of State for Health and Children, Dr Tom Moffat, and Mr Brian McCarthy, secretary-general to the President.
