An elderly Englishman has died in hospital today following a plane crash in Co Limerick earlier this month.

An elderly Englishman has died in hospital today following a plane crash in Co Limerick earlier this month.

Mr Godfrey Bush (85) was injured when the single-engined Beech aircraft crashed on the morning of Friday, August 9th, shortly after leaving the Ballyneale Stud, near Ballingarry. The plane lost power, careered through a ditch and came down in a nearby field.

Mr Bush suffered severe abdominal injuries and fractured legs.

The victim’s wife Mavis (72) and the 27-year-old pilot of the plane were also injured and treated at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick city. Mrs Bush was treated for head injuries, while the pilot suffered lacerations to his face.

Mr Bush is the father-in-law of Mr David Parl, the London businessman who owns the stud farm. The plane was flying the couple to Gloucester following their visit to the Limerick farm. The stud has its own grass airstrip for light aircraft.

An investigation into the crash is being carried out by the Air Accident Investigation Unit of the Department of Transport.
