An elderly priest was assaulted and robbed by a youth in west Belfast last night.

It is understood the youth asked to speak to the priest in confidence at the parochial house in New Barnsley Green, near Ballymurphy, just after 10 p.m. yesterday.

After being invited inside the house he allegedly hit the priest in the face and demanded his car keys.

The youth drove off in the priest's Renault Clio.

The priest was taken to hospital for treatment and was later discharged.

The car was found abandoned this afternoon at the Musgrave Prk industrial park in West Belfast.
