Finding outings suitable for all ages within a family (including grandparents) can be difficult, but if you're looking for something to do in Dublin between now and the end of October, the Viking Splash Tour is certainly novel. The tour "bus" is a chunky, truck-like vehicle, which can go on land or water and the "splash" part refers to an excursion into the Grand Canal Docks basin. The bus driver is kitted out as a Viking and he provides the commentary which touches on the architecture, history, culture and personalities of Dublin city from Swift and Molly Malone to the Dubliners.
The cost of the tour is £9.95 for an adult and £5.50 for a child. Groups of 15 or more get a 10 per cent discount. Special adult rates of £6.50 are available for those who book in advance for 10 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. tours on weekdays. The telephone number for bookings is (086) 828 3773 and the tour takes about 80 minutes. Tours depart from Bull Alley, beside St Patrick's Cathedral, and as the sides of the vehicle are open it's a good idea to dress for the weather.
