USI is to hold a disadvantage access seminar on Friday November 15th in conjunction with the National College of Industrial Relations, Sandford Road, Dublin, and the NCIR students' union.

"It's mainly directed at third level students who are going into schools to talk about going to college," says USI's education officer, Malcolm Byrne. "There are a lot of students on the ground who are going into second level schools, particularly in disadvantaged areas, and this is just to give them some support."

Students in a number of third level colleges, including Cork RTC, Limerick RTC and UCD, are directly involved in programmes to encourage greater participation in third level by students from disadvantaged areas.

The half day seminar will be informal and facilitative and further details are available from USI at (01) 671 0088 or from Eileen Punch or Colin O'Brien in the NCIR at (01) 497 2917.
