Prize new website searches the deep

Finbarr Jordan, Ciaran Fayne and Cian Hughes were the winners of this year's Spin A Web competition. Their "Titanic" website brings new insight to a subject which has been rendered almost tedious by recent overexposure.

The body of Titanic victim Margaret Rice was identified because her shoes bore the legend "Parson's of Athlone" and her pillbox came from Fleming's, also in the town. Her great-niece Carmel Connolly still lives in the area and provided information and a family photograph to the team of Transition Year sleuths from St Aloysius College, Athlone.

Spin A Web is a web design competition for primary and second-level students, co-ordinated by TCD's computer science department. This year prizes worth £15,000 were provided by Eircom. Eight post-primary schools, all boys, and four primary schools, made it to the final. Their sites can be viewed at www.spinaweb.ie
