Seamus Heaney Lecture Series, St Patrick's College, Dublin

The opening lecture in the Seamus Heaney Lecture Series 2008-09 takes place in St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin on Monday, October 20th at 8pm. The theme for the current series is "All changed? Culture and Identity in Contemporary Ireland". For the first lecture - "Cross Cutting Identities" - the panel members are Rosaleen McDonagh, Amel Yacef, Kathleen O'Neill and Dr Livingstone Thompson. Admission is free. Conference on Best Practice in Science Education Promotion

Atlantic Corridor is hosting an international conference to share best practice in the promotion of science education in Tullamore, Co Offaly on Thursday, October 23rd. The conference is for those involved in science-based industries, science education and all interested in sustainable socio-economic development. The keynote speaker is Prof Lord Robert Winston. UCC Public Lecture Series

UCC is hosting a public lecture series as part of its new cohort PhD programme in education. In this second lecture, Prof Jim Spillane, Northwestern University, Chicago will talk about leadership and learning in schools on Friday, October 17th in the Aula Maxima, UCC at 7.30pm. UCD/ Hugh Lane Lecture Series

UCD is offering a lecture series with the Hugh Lane Gallery to coincide with their upcoming exhibition "Now's the Time", featuring the work of Basquiat, Gordon Matta-Clarke, Eva Hesse, Seurat, Van Gogh and Boccioni. Schools' Science Essay Competition

Entries are being invited by the Regenerative Medicine Institute (Remedi) at NUI Galway for the fourth annual schools' science essay competition. Essays are invited on the topic "Boundaries of Science - is there anything we should not do?". The competition is open to all students in the senior cycle of secondary schools in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The closing date for receipt of entries is Friday, October 31st. Information Evening and Seminars on Neurodevelopmental Differences

An information evening and/or a two- day seminar on the Holistic Approach to Neurodevelopment and Learning Efficiency (Handle) will take place on Friday, October 17th in the Froebel College, Sion Hill, Blackrock,
