Have knapsacks, will travel - to Turkey next month. Cian Doherty, a student at CBC Monkstown, Dublin, has won a visit to Turkey for himself and his English and history teacher, Rory O'Sullivan. His essay, on Ataturk and modern Turkey, was the winning entry in an competition to commemorate Turkey's 75th anniversary as a republic.
The competition was sponsored by the Turkish Minister of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Tourism. It was open to all Turkish and foreign second-level students between the ages of 15 and 18. Cian and his teacher will visit Istanbul, Ankara and the Cappadocia region.
