More than 60 per cent of full-time third-level students need accommodation for the duration of the academic year. Growing difficulties in the area of student accommodation prompted the recent formation of the Irish Association of Student Accommodation Officers (IASAO). Members will liaise with statutory and other relevant bodies in relation to housing policy. Margaret Rowe of Dublin City University is IASCO chairperson; Phillipa Buckley of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland is secretary. Paddy Gallagher, IT Letterkenny, Frances McNamara, University of Limerick, and Stella Brown, IT Tallaght, are committee members.
