John Wilson Foster, Professor of English at the University of British Columbia, Canada, will be giving a series of lectures in NUI Maynooth throughout this month. His first, on Darwinism in Ireland, can be heard this Friday. On consecutive Fridays he will speak on "Titanic and the Machine Age" and "Fieldwork and Literature" - all covered by the theme, "Recoveries: Neglected Episodes in Irish Cultural History, 1860-1914". Prof Foster, who grew up in east Belfast, is an authority on Irish literature and culture and the impact of science. He will speak in the lecture theatre of the Callan Science Building at 7.30 p.m.
