Eanna Ni Lamhna, the popular wildlife broadcaster and education consultant to Dublin Zoo, will present a workshop on the first day of the Education Show Ireland in the RDS in Dublin.
The Education Show, which takes place between April 13th and 15th, is the largest exhibition of education equipment, resources and materials held on this island. The Zoo is launching a new environmental studies programme for primary schools to complement the new primary school curriculum and Fringes of the Arctic, one of four workpacks and one of those intended for fifth and sixth classes, will be launched during the workshop. The content of the workpacks is particularly relevant to the environmental awareness and care section of the geography and science curricula, covering global environmental issues. Each workpack contains teachers' notes, introduction to modules and relevance to syllabus; preparation work in the classroom; a description of the illustrated presentation in the Zoo; worksheets for fieldwork at the Zoo and follow-up work back in the classroom. Teachers who attend the workshop will be guided through the modules step by step. The workshop begins at 3 p.m. Further details are available from the Education Services section of Dublin Zoo, tel (01) 677 1425.
The Education Show, now in its fifth year, attracts some 6,000 teachers, school administrators and other educators over the three days. More than 100 leading specialist suppliers from all over Ireland and Britain are exhibiting and many will provide demonstrations, bringing people up to date on advances in educational technology and providing help and advice to enhance teaching methods and information on new products and developments.
The show, presented in association with The Irish Times, is organised by Irish Services Ltd, tel (01) 288 8821.
