SCHOOLMAG COMPETITION:NOW THAT you're finally putting all the pieces of the Schoolmag puzzle together, make sure that your features are working their hardest.

Strong, engaging, original and accurate features always make the shortlist. A bold introduction  that doesn’t bother with cliches will always catch the judges’ eyes. Go through your feature and take out any redundant phrases (do you really need to start that sentence with “Many people believe that . . .”?) Chop up long, rambling sentences for a crisper line of communication.

Take a bird’s eye view of the route your feature has taken. Have you finished what you started? Did you set the reader up for one line of argument and then finish by saying something else? Make sure that your article sticks to the point and keeps the reader interested.

Finally, don’t be afraid to inject some personality into the piece – it will make your work fresh and unique.
