RTÉ PRESENTER Joe Duffy had surgery yesterday on his right leg which was broken in two places when he was hit by a reversing car on Thursday morning.

Mr Duffy was hit by the car when he was returning books to the Pearse Street library. He was leaning to take books out of the boot when he was struck. He was taken to St James’s Hospital that afternoon and the operation took place yesterday afternoon.

According to a brief RTÉ statement yesterday, the broadcaster is in “fine spirits” and is expected out of hospital early next week.

Damien O’Reilly will present Liveline in his place next week.
