Drogheda train station in Co Louth has been awarded the top prize in the Waterford Wedgewood-sponsored Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards.

Chosen from over 130 stations, Drogheda also took the award for Best Major Station.

The awards reward excellence in customer facilities, cleanliness, innovation and customer service.

Last year's overall winner, Skerries, Co Dublin, was awarded Best Suburban Halt for the sixth year in a row. Dundalk station won the Best Heritage award.

Castlebar in Mayo was named Best Intercity Halt, and Dublin Grand Canal Dock was named Best DART station.
