The body of 67-year-old Seamus Doherty was discovered at a house at Drumacnoo near the village of Churchill on Sunday.

Emergency services had been called to the house in the early hours of the morning.

Mr Doherty was pronounced dead at the scene and later removed to Letterkenny hospital.

A postmortem carried out yesterday revealed that Mr Doherty had died in "suspicious circumstances".

An incident room has been set up at Letterkenny Garda station and gardaí have begun a murder investigation.

The scene in and around the house remains preserved pending a full forensic and technical examination, a Garda spokesman said.
