Muintir na Tire is concerned at the increase in dog licences from £5 to £10 and has called on the Minister for the Environment to introduce free licences for older people. The group stressed that a dog was a companion and a source of security for many older people, particularly those living alone. "Muintir would encourage the Minister to make this gesture to coincide with the International Year of Older Persons 1999."
