Doctors reporting possible child abuse cases need no longer worry about being sued for damages, according to the Journal of the Medical Defence Union. This is because the Protection for Persons Reporting Child Abuse Act, which came into effect earlier this year, protects people making reports responsibly and without malice, it says. "The MDU is aware of members who have been sued for damages or been the subject of defamation proceedings after reporting suspected child abuse," it says.
