The 32-County Sovereignty Movement, made up of dissident republicans, has called on all republicans and nationalists, regardless of their political divisions, "to give unqualified backing to defend the simple right of the beleaguered Garvaghy Road residents to be free from an Orange sectarian march."

The movement's PRO, Mr Joe Dillon, said the group was deeply concerned about "the escalating loyalist campaign of threats, violence and intimidation being orchestrated to secure Orange feet trampling down the Garvaghy Road".

He also said the prospect of an Orange march after international observers had left was disturbing and the residents of the Garvaghy Road, "must not be bartered or subordinated to any political deal".
