A dispute by 120 staff in the Clare Mental Health Service has been resolved.

The action, which has been ongoing for the past 12 days and has affected up to 240 patients, centred on the suspension of three receptionists on November 25th for four weeks.

This followed a row between the three and the health board relating to new working conditions at Ennis's new €6 million acute psychiatric unit.

The workers had placed pickets morning outside health service centres, including the unit in Ennis.

In a joint statement, SIPTU and the Mid-Western Health Board said today they have agreed arrangements for the staff to return to work following talks with an independent facilitator.

"The issues at the centre of the dispute will be the subject of further negotiations over the coming weeks. Both sides have expressed confidence that the central issues will be resolved and look forward to the restoration of full services in the Clare Mental Health Services over the next few days," the statement said.
