Bogota - Colombian scientists have designed a device to combat venous thrombosis, sometimes dubbed "economy class syndrome," which often hits travellers who sit for more than three hours on a bus or aircraft.

Mr Jorge Reynolds, an electrical engineer and pioneer in developing pacemakers, who is a co-inventor, said the device was a small stimulator of the venous system of the legs that was used externally, "even on top of socks or stockings", and may well be developed in a disposable form.
