The RUC in Derry is treating as arson an early-morning fire in a house in the loyalist Fountain Estate on Derry's mainly Catholic west bank area yesterday morning. A man was helped to safety from his upstairs bedroom window by neighbours.

The fire, which broke out in the kitchen, caused widespread smoke and fire damage to the kitchen and the RUC believes the fire was started deliberately.
