The Gardai have has welcomed the decrease in the number of vehicles being driven with worn tyres.
In a joint venture with the Irish Tyre Industry Association, over 9,000 vehicles throughout the State were checked last June. The survey showed that the incidence of vehicles with illegal tyres fell from 22.12 per cent in October 1996, when the survey first began, to 12.2 per cent.
