Mr Sheehan’s body was taken from the Avoca river on Wednesday, close to the south quay wall in Arklow. Mr Sheehan (18), Ballyduff Road, Arklow, was last seen leaving Sally O’Brien’s nightclub at 2.38am on Sunday.

Closed-circuit television footage placed Mr Sheehan at the Bridgewater Shopping Centre at 3.35am, about an hour after he left the nightclub.

His remains were identified on Wednesday night and, after a postmortem, gardaí said his death was accidental. More than 200 people from the community, as well as the Garda Water Unit, Civil Defence and the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service, helped in the search.
