The Cuirt International Festival of Literature opened in Galway last night with a reading by the Booker Prize winning novelist, Ben Okri.

During the week-long event, other international writers such as the IMPAC Award-winning novelist, David Malouf, and the poets Carol Ann Duffy, Ruth Padel and Linton Kwesi Johnson will read from their work.

Other highlights include a reading by Seamus Heaney at the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday, and a reading by the Whitbread-nominated Irish poet, Bernard O'Donoghue.

The festival runs until Sunday.
