CROKE PARK is being considered as a venue for a rally when President Barack Obama visits Ireland next month.
A Croke Park source confirmed that the stadium was being looked at as a possible venue, but no decision has been made because the itinerary has not been finalised.
There was no official comment from the GAA yesterday as is usual with such State visits where protocols are observed and security is tight. The rally would take place on May 22nd.
Croke Park is free for that Sunday as the National League will have concluded and the first championship game there is not due to take place until June.
The only certainty about President Obama’s itinerary is that he will visit Moneygall in Co Offaly, the birthplace of his third great-grandfather Fulmouth Kearney who emigrated to the United States in 1850.
Details of Mr Obama’s planned visit to his ancestral home in Co Offaly are expected to be disclosed at a meeting between Offaly county manager Pat Gallagher and American ambassador Dan Rooney this week.
