Three held after man suffers head injuries in Cavan assault

Three people are being questioned in connection with as assault in Cavan town early this morning which has left a man in a critical condition in hospital.

The victim in his fifties was attacked at around 3am in the Stonebridge apartments area of the town.

He was taken to Cavan General Hospital for treatment for head injuries.

Three people; two males, aged 55 and 25, and a woman aged 27, were arrested shortly after the assault and are being questioned at Cavan Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene of the assault remains sealed off for a forensic examination.
