Drugs and cash seized in Cab operation at 16 addresses in Wicklow

Steroids and airsoft rifles among items confiscated during co-ordinated searches

Gardaí carried out co-ordinated searches at 16 addresses in Co Wicklow on Tuesday, seizing relatively small amounts of drugs and cash among other materials.

The operation was executed by the Criminal Assets Bureau (the Cab) with the assistance of the Garda Emergency Response Unit (ERU), the Garda Dog Unit and the Customs Revenue Dog Unit.

The target addresses, consisting of eight residential, two business and six professional premises, were searched under Cab warrants.

During the searches, officers seized cocaine with an estimated value of €9,800, herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €900, and an amount of the local anesthetic lidocaine.

Steroids worth about €100, two airsoft rifles, €9,100 in cash, financial accounts and property ownership documents, mobile phones and electronic storage devices were also confiscated.

A 30-year-old man was arrested for suspected offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act and was detained at Wicklow Garda station. He was later released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
