A man aged 31 is expected to appear before a sitting of Blanchardstown District Court tomorrow morning charged in connection with a carjacking early yesterday morning in Palmerstown.

Gardaí arrested the man after the incident, which was carried out at about 1.30am yesterday.

A 58-year-old male taxi driver was threatened and assaulted at knifepoint by a lone male before being forced from his vehicle.

The incident occurred in a carpark at a shopping centre in Palmerstown. The car was driven from the scene in the direction of the N4.

The taxi driver was taken to Ballyfermot Garda station, where he received medical treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

The man was arrested when members of the regional support unit intercepted the taxi at a filling station near Maynooth, Co Kildare, shortly before 8am yesterday.
