Man for trial over alleged sexual assault of three daughters

A 43-year-old man who cannot be identified by court order has been sent forward to the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on charges of raping and sexually assaulting one daughter and sexually assaulting two others.

He is facing more than 50 charges that he raped and sexually assaulted one of his victims between 2000 and 2012.

The remaining charges allege he sexually assaulted two other daughters on several occasions in 2012.

Book of evidence

Garda Liam Doherty gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the accused man before Tuesday’s sitting of the court.

State Solicitor for Co Longford Mark Connellan told Judge Seamus Hughes he was applying to have the accused sent forward to the Central Criminal Court.

The judge acceded to a request for two legal counsel to represent the accused, who is unemployed, at his trial in the Central Criminal Court.

Mr Connellan asked Judge Hughes to impose reporting restrictions and the judge ordered a “total prohibition” on publication of the identities of the accused and his alleged victims.
