Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin and the Taoiseach are in Prague today for a US-EU summit.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin will today join European counterparts for talks with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on a raft of key international issues.
Mr Martin will travel to the informal EU-US summit in Prague with the Taoiseach, who is expected to meet President Barack Obama.
The Middle East and Afghanistan - key foreign policy issues for the new US administration - will be among the topics discussed.
Mr Martin said the summit provided an important opportunity for the EU to engage with the administration on global matters.
¿This is a time of tremendous challenge, and this Summit is a welcome opportunity for the US and the EU to work together to find a common path to recovery,¿ Mr Martin said.
¿It is also a forum where we can strengthen the transatlantic relationship in other important matters- including issues of disarmament and non-proliferation, about which President Obama will be speaking in Prague.¿
Mr Martin said the relationship between the EU and US was of fundamental importance and the talks would further cement Ireland¿s good relations with the new US Administration.
¿I very much look forward to meeting Secretary of State Clinton again, so soon after our discussions when I visited Washington for St. Patrick¿s Day,¿ Mr Martin said.
