The Minster for Foreign Affairs, Mr Brian Cowen, is tonight thought likely to call off plans to attend an informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Sweden this weekend.

Mr Cowen was taken to hospital earlier today for a check-up after being hit by a motorcycle on St Stephens Green.

The Minister was crossing from the Green to Iveagh House when he was struck by the motorcycle.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said that Mr Cowen was fine but he had been taken to hospital for a routine check-up.

The motorcyclist involved in the incident was uninjured.
