Gary McAllister is expected to be named as the new boss of Coventry City this morning.
The Liverpool midfielder and former Sky Blues favourite has been touted as the number one choice to take over the Division One side ever since they sacked player-manager Roland Nilsson last week.
The ex-Scotland international played 119 matches for Coventry in his four seasons at the club after joining from Leeds in 1996.
The 37-year-old left to join Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer of 2000 and enjoyed his most successful season, helping the Anfield side to the treble of the FA Cup, Worthington Cup and UEFA Cup and being named man of the match in the 5-4 European final victory over Alaves.
However, his first-team chances have been restricted this season and earlier this week McAllister dropped a huge hint that his playing days were over and he was heading into management with his former club.
"I have been on the telephone non-stop trying to organise things," he said.
"I accept that, as a new manager, I am going to need the right help. Now I am waiting for certain things to fall into place and then we will take it from there."
