THE PREPARATION of a file on the murders of two women and two children in Co Limerick is at an advanced stage, a court has been told.

John Geary (31), Meadow Court, Newcastle West, but originally from Milford, Co Cork, is charged with the murder of Sarah Hines (25), Amy Hines (five months), Reece Hines (3) and Sarah Brough (20) at Hazelgrove, Gortboy, Newcastle West, Co Limerick on November 15th last.

Mr Geary appeared before Newcastle West District Court yesterday where the State sought a further adjournment in the case.

Garda Supt Dan Flavin of Newcastle West sought a further remand of the matter, saying the file was at an advanced stage of preparation and he expected it would be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions within four weeks.

Solicitor John Herbert did not object to the application but sought an assurance that the file would be completed within that time.

Judge Mary O’Halloran remanded Mr Geary in continuing custody on all four murder charges to appear before the court again on March 1st.

Mr Geary did not speak during yesterday’s brief appearance.
