Court to give Gilligan appeal ruling tomorrow
The Court of Criminal Appeal will give its judgment tomorrow morning in the appeal by John Gilligan against his conviction on drug charges.
The appeal concluded last month after a seven-day hearing, and Mr Justice McCracken, sitting with Mr Justice Quirke and Mr Justice Peart, reserved judgment. The judgment will be given tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Gilligan was in court for the entire appeal, which opened on July 1st and was conducted amid heavy security. He was jailed by the non-jury Special Criminal Court in March 2001 following a 45-day trial.
He was convicted of possession of cannabis resin and having the drug for sale or supply.
Gilligan was acquitted of the murder of journalist Veronica Guerin on June 26th, 1996, and was also cleared of firearms charges.
