Moscow - The Russian constitutional court decided yesterday that it would consider whether President Boris Yeltsin is entitled to run for reelection in 2000, the Interfax agency reported. Mr Alexei Zakharov, a deputy from the liberal opposition Yabloko party who requested the ruling, said the court had voted 14 to one in favour of considering the matter. Mr Yeltsin, re-elected in July 1996, has caused controversy by hinting that he may run for a third term.
