Counting of votes in the election for the vice-presidency of SIPTU begins today but a result is not expected until tomorrow. There are five candidates for the post, which is one of the three senior positions in the union. They include SIPTU's national industrial secretary, Mr Des Geraghty, a former Democratic Left MEP, and Ms Carolann Duggan, a Waterford factory worker, who got 37,940 votes in the election for union president earlier this year. The other candidates are full-time union officials: SIPTU equality officer Ms Noirin Greene, Donegal branch secretary Mr George Hunter, and Dublin hotels, restaurants and catering branch secretary, Mr Norman Croke.
