A member of Ballina Urban Council has suggested that a joint approach be made to Mayo and Sligo county councils to purchase Bartra Island, at the mouth of the river Moy estuary. Cllr Terry McCole said the island would be a major benefit to both counties as a tourist amenity.
The island was put up for sale recently by Mayo born Ms Mary Molloy, who operates biodynamic clinics in Co Mayo and the UK.
