Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Co Council has moved to severely restrict opportunities for developers to build on lands between coastal roads and the sea.

The move follows a number of recent high profile developments in the Killiney and Dalkey areas.

At last night's council meeting, called to review the draft development plan, councillors agreed to amend the plan to impose a virtual ban on all developments which would block existing views.

On the suggestion of Cllr Frank Smyth (Lab) it was also agreed to insert a section seeking "the co-operation of the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources to ensure that foreshore development would not conflict with council policy."
