The man who died when his car collided with another vehicle in Co Cork early this morning has been named 28-year-old Anthony Coakley from Glencurragh, Skibbereen.

The crash happened on the main road from Skibbereen to Dreenagh in the townland of Milleenhorna, Clonakilty, shortly after 9 am. The deceased is understood to have died at the scene.

The male driver of the second vehicle was injured and was taken to Cork University Hospital.

There were no passengers in either of the vehicles.

Separately, the Garda Ombudsman has begun an investigation following a crash in Co Kerry this morning.

Two men were  injured, one seriously, in the collision which happened on the road between Castleisland and Tralee shortly after 6.30 am.

Reports suggest that the vehicle in which the two men were driving had been stolen earlier in Castleisland and used in an attempted robbery.
