Confusion surrounds NEC job cuts in Scotland

Japanese computer maker NEC has still not made an official statement about job losses at a plant in Scotland.

It was reported up to 450 jobs could go at the NEC Computers plant in Livingston. But later reports suggested the number of workers likely to lose their jobs at the West Lothian plant was nearer 150.

Last year the area the company shed more than 1,500 jobs with the closure of its semiconductor plant.

Earlier, reacting to the reports, the Scottish Executive said it regretted the decision by NEC Computers to close its plant in Livingston.
