A BA Concorde has had to divert to Cardiff Airport after an engine problem,the airline said tonight.
The supersonic jet was on a flight from New York's JFK airport to LondonHeathrow when the pilot diverted to Cardiff.
The jet, carrying 99, passengers, experienced an "engine surge" during theflight and so flew subsonic, said a spokesman for BA.
This uses up more fuel and as a result flight BA002 had to divert to CardiffInternational Airport instead of landing at Heathrow.
"It was not an emergency landing and the safety of the passengers or crewwere not compromised," said a BA spokesman.
He added: "The aircraft experienced a temporary engine surge in one of thefour engines during the flight.
"As a result the aircraft flew sub-sonic for the rest of the journey. It usesmore fuel and as a result it had to divert into Cardiff."The Concorde jet landed at around 7pm.
