The British trial of five people charged in connection with the Morecambe Bay cockling disaster was adjourned today.

Twenty-one Chinese cockle pickers drowned in rising tides off Hest Bank in Lancashire on February 5th last year.

A further two cocklers are thought to have been swept to their deaths, but their bodies have not been found.

Lin Liang Ren (29), from Liverpool, is charged with 21 counts of manslaughter.

He is also charged with perverting the course of justice and facilitation - helping people breach immigration law - along with Zhao Xiao Qing (21) from Liverpool.

David Anthony Eden (62) from Irby, Merseyside, and his son David Anthony Eden (34) from Prenton, Merseyside, are charged with facilitation.

Lin Mu Yong (31), from Liverpool, is also charged with facilitation. The trial was due to start at Preston Crown Court today, but it was adjourned by Mr Justice Henriques to Thursday at 10am.
