One of the biggest parades in the north east was in Monaghan town, where the Bishop of Clogher, Dr Joseph Duffy, and the Leas Ceann Comhairle, Dr Rory O'Hanlon, were joined on the platform by other members of the Oireachtas, civic and community leaders and visiting VIPs from Canada and the Mayor of Carhaix in France, Mr Andre le Roux. French and Canadian representatives were guests at the parade in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, attended by over 4,000 people. Its theme was the celebration of 100 years of local government.
