Cigarettes seized at Dublin Port

A man has been arrested after Revenue Customs officers today seized 4.1 million cigarettes at Dublin Port.

A man has been arrested after Revenue Customs officers today seized 4.1 million cigarettes at Dublin Port.

The contraband cigarettes, labelled "Raquel" and "Gold Classic" brands, had arrived at the port from China via Holland and were described on the manifest as "pharmaceuticals".

The cigarettes have an estimated retail value of €2 million and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €1.8 million.

A man in his 30s from Northern Ireland was arrested, charged and remanded in custody. A truck was also seized during the operation.

An investigation is ongoing.
