Passengers on state-owned bus, Dart and rail services face a 9 per cent rise in fares if a funding increase request from CIE is accepted by the Government, it is reported today.

The increase in ticket prices is made up of a 6 per cent increase in ticket costs and further 3 per cent rise to deal with increased fuel costs.

CIE submitted the funding request to cover current and previous increases in fuel prices and rising wage costs. The request has been submitted to the Department of Transport which will make a decision on it in the coming weeks.
