Mr Ciaran Haughey co-operated fully at all times with the tribunal, counsel for Mr Haughey and Celtic Helicopters said yesterday. Ms Caroline Costello said she wished to respond to comments by counsel for the public interest, Mr Edward Comyn SC, who had suggested there had been a "lack of candour" on Mr Haughey's part which should not be rewarded in relation to costs. Ms Costello said she begged to differ. In essence there had been no lack of candour on the part of Mr Haughey. He had agreed he had received money from Mr Ben Dunne. The matters about which he had to give evidence had occurred eight years previously. Overall Mr Haughey's evidence had been accepted. Just because some of Mr Haughey's evidence was not accepted should not mean that he should not be awarded costs. If that was the case it would be open to parties before tribunals to believe they would be "penalised" in relation to costs if part of their evidence was not accepted. In relation to Celtic Helicopters, Ms Costello said the tribunal had accepted that Mr Traynor had put in place arrangements to support loans for the company. The company had no information that the Ansbacher deposits were being used to support the loans.
