A CIA analysis of the audio portions of a tape released this week is "inconclusive" on whether it contains the voice of Osama bin Laden, but has found "high confidence" that it contains the voice of his main deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, a CIA official says.

"The CIA has high confidence that the tape contains the voice of Ayman Zawahri. The analysis of the alleged bin Laden portion is inconclusive," the official said on Thursday. "CIA will continue to analyse that portion of the tape. It is possible there will not be a more definitive conclusion."

The tape broadcast by the Al Jazeera Arabic television station yesterday urged supporters to bury Americans in "the graveyard of Iraq."
