Householders in Co Dublin are being invited to bring their Christmas trees to any one of 18 recycling centres from next Saturday, instead of putting them out with their rubbish.

The trees will be put through a woodchipper and the resulting material spread as a mulch around trees and shrubs in the parks and open spaces maintained by South Dublin County Council.

The centres are located at Esker Lane and Beechpark, Lucan; Collinstown Park, Monastery Estate, Foxdene and Moorfield, all in Clondalkin; Deansrath Park; Bawnogue, Community Centre; Woodfarm, Acres, Palmerstown; Glenauline Park, McGee Park, Park, Kilnamanagh Centre, Ballyboden Lane, Tymon Park, Tallaght; Friarstown tiphead and Park.
